Dr. Alexandra Golby is Professor of Neurosurgery and Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School. After completing neurosurgical training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Boston Children’s Hospital Neurosurgery residency program in 2002, she received the Dandy Clinical Fellowship from the Congress of Neurological Surgeons to study in France with Professor Benabid and in Switzerland with Professor Villemure. She returned to BWH in 2003 to start her faculty career. At BWH, Dr. Golby is a Senior neurosurgeon, Director of Image-guided Neurosurgery, Co-director of [AMIGO (Advanced Multimodality Image Guided Operating Suite)](https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__secure-2Dweb.cisco.com_1pnAe0hvlBeq3WNbg53bLZ-5FPDM-2DYG2VUnh1P-5FwV8pixBGesC-5FuvG9urjy5pralmjnkUeipOFpTDgmNn4e5eV4aRZTKLiAHHZKYvR2cDMKXQ1r57T-5FLV4Fj-2DybifZOvr1YIaXKePezFdfPkWEJmPwCq49iLIJlMXxWocPagnoq4ppJyMk08BPCcUQ51NoJJvqadTQk1V4oL2L1-5F-2DCShD7ne9j3-5Fuw5N4P2R-2DTWI0rLgOopbsAGgCD26uEsmqwUswpqMIoMIT0RYq1K-5Fv30scEZHEOB6Bguz3ctGdv-2D6BLkbhtPXYbjXshGIzCFSkE4w6bJ_https-253A-252F-252Fwww.brighamandwomens.org-252Fresearch-252Famigo-252Fadvanced-2Dmultimodality-2Dimage-2Dguided-2Doperating-2Dsuite&d=DwMGaQ&c=WO-RGvefibhHBZq3fL85hQ&r=U6b4HeaFs50nePnOg7qF9hFEISQ--2c7qEE-EGk2qAI&m=krTiTUImExlK97EVcRqC3bDuBzHyv6ggOFEP3yqIi3No-I6eDO4gqqtlBan9zAp0&s=bWm8nTTr45LeDJAMugek_OXPmchtvmBqfvxHZVPiLQI&e=), and Co-director of Clinical fMRI. Dr. Golby was recently named Director of the Brigham Research Institute (BRI). Dr. Golby also directs a Fellowship in Image Guided Neurosurgery to train the next generation of neurosurgical innovators.

Dr. Golby’s clinical practice is focused on image-guided neurosurgery with special interests in surgery for patients with brain tumors, particularly those whose disease is intimately involved with critical brain regions. Using advanced multi-modal imaging and intra-operative image-guidance, Dr. Golby performs precise, minimally invasive, and personalized surgery. In addition to conventional open craniotomy for brain tumors, she is also specialized in laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT), a minimally invasive technique that uses precisely guided laser heat to destroy tumors in the brain. Dr. Golby also led a clinical trial of a novel therapy, focused ultrasound blood brain barrier (BBB) disruption, in brain tumor patients to deliver therapeutics more effectively across the BBB.

Her research brings together experts from both clinical and technical fields and is highly collaborative. The multi-disciplinary team develops translational technology using structural, functional and molecular imaging techniques to improve neurosurgical planning and intraoperative decision-making. In 2022, Dr. Golby was a Fulbright Global Scholar where her project aimed to foster interdisciplinary collaboration in LMIC to address unmet clinical needs
